Sometimes all you're after is a comfortable chair or couch so you can knock out some homework, pleasure reading, or just take a break between classes. All three floors of the library boast groupings of chairs spaced throughout.

Check-Out Available at the Circulation Desk

Our group study rooms feature either a whiteboard or chalkboard, a monitor with a DVI connection available for electronic devices, and tables for groups to spread out and study. At least two (2) RockyCard holders must be present to check out one of these rooms. These rooms are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Applications Available at the Circulation Desk

Students may reserve a private research carrel on a semester-by-semester basis, featuring a desk, ample storage for research materials, and a unique keycode for the door. Priority is given to seniors undertaking undergraduate research projects.
Note: Some of the research carrels are double occupancy rather than single.

Application Available Online

Ramsey Library has a limited number of enclosed carrels available for faculty use. Full-time members of the faculty who are actively engaged in research, writing, or curricular development projects requiring ready access to library resources are eligible to apply for a study carrel. Requests for carrels from other members of the UNC Asheville community may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Large, open carrels with lockable cabinets are also available for faculty use if an enclosed carrel is not available.
Applications are due by August 15th for the school year and by May 1st for summer semesters. For more information, please contact Alicia Henry.

Our main lobby has 2 large-screen Windows computers for groups to work on collaborative projects without crowding around one small screen. We ask that patrons please reserve these computers for groups of two (2) or more during peak hours.

The Sandbox

Developed in partnership with AVID, The Sandbox offers mobile furniture, whiteboard partitions, computers, and spacious tables for students to create, grow, and flourish whether working alone or in a group.
