Media Design Lab: Video Recording Studio

The Self Service Video Recording Studio (VRS) is located within the Media Design Lab / CrAFT Studio area on the lower level of Ramsey Library.  It offers patrons a quiet place to record personal and academic video projects including green screen, head shots, interviews, and more. This space is for current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff only. Drop-ins are welcome or you can make a reservation below.

Please note: There are 2 video recording facilities in Ramsey Library: the TV Studio and the Video Recording Studio (VRS). The TV Studio is a full service lab where technicians do the recording for you, and the VRS is a self service, Do-It-Yourself recording studio.

For all VRS patrons: Whether you have a reservation or would like to drop in, the VRS door is locked at all times. To have someone unlock the VRS, do one of the following:

• Visit the MDL Help Desk
• Visit one of the staff offices across from the Media Design Lab
• Visit Kent Thompson in Video Production (or call 828.251.6425)

Just let the staff member know you would like to use the VRS or that you have a reservation, and they will unlock the door for you.

Note: If for some reason you cannot reach anyone by the above methods, visit the circulation desk on the main floor of the library and ask someone to unlock the door for you.

Want to reserve the Self Service Video Recording Studio (VRS)?

Before you reserve, please note:

• Please enter your @unca.edu email address when reserving the studio.

• If you're running late for your appointment, we will hold the studio for 15 minutes before turning it over to the next person in line.

• After placing your reservation make sure you receive an automatic confirmation email.

Note: This online reservation system only allows 1 hour blocks of time per reservation for the VRS. If you would like to reserve the studio for more than an hour, you will need to make multiple reservations!

The VRS is a sound isolation booth, measuring 12.5' X 15', and has the following equipment available:

• Sony FDR-AX53 4K Ultra HD Handycam Camcorder

• Rode Wireless GO II Dual Channel Wireless Microphone System (2 Lavalier mics + receiver)

• Impact Collapsible Circular Reflector Disc

The VRS is also equipped with:

• 12' X 7.5'  green backdrop and a 9' X 5' black backdrop
• 2 Fovitec Fluorescent Studio softboxes with stands
• Track lighting with daylight LED bulbs
• Tripod with quick release camera plate and dolly
• (2) 128GB SanDisk ExtremePRO SD cards
• Polsen Headphones

Patrons are welcome to use the equipment available in the VRS, or choose to bring their own equipment. Cameras and microphones are also available for check out from the Circulation desk located on the main floor of Ramsey Library.
