Key Web Resources
American Association of Teachers of German
The official website of the association, which features many helpful links to teaching resources. One unusual and useful resource is a list of links to German-American radio stations online. To find this list, click "Resources" at the top menu, then select "Publications," and then choose "Publication Information."
BBC Languages: German
This webpage, provided by BBC, offers videos , links, and other content helpful for learning the German language.
This German news website features print, video, and radio content. Switch the page from English to German by clicking "Deutsch" in the "Choose Your Language" box on the right side of the homepage. Read, watch, or listen for good practice in the language.
Backed by the German government, the Goethe Institut aims to promote the study of German language, culture, society, and politics. The page offers news stories, online editions of Goethe's publications, and lists of external links to learning and teaching resources. For German Language help, try clicking on the "Learning German" tab at the top and then choosing "External Links" on the menu. The website can be switched to German by clicking the German flag in the top right corner.
Institut für Deutsche Sprache
The IDS is a non-university institute for the research and documentation of the German language in its modern use. Some resources in German are available online through their library. The website is entirely in German.
The website for a publication about Germany directed at young people. Look at business and living opportunities in Germany, read articles about current events, or look at stories focusing on German culture. The site is in English, but there is a section in German. To view it, just click on "DEUTSCH@YG."
Sound and Film Recordings
Here is a sampling of audio and video resources available in German through the library catalog. Keep in mind that the library owns a variety of German language films, as well as many DVDs that offer the option to watch in German or with German subtitles. Both types of DVDs may be a good way to practice. Many of the web resources listed above include audio and video content in German as well.
Ein Deutsches Requiem
A CD of music by German composer Johannes Brahms, recorded from a concert of his work in Berlin in 2006. The lyrics are sung in German. Program notes in English, German, and French are included.
