New Orleans...Honoring Her Memory, Her Resilience, and Her Heart

OPENING RECEPTION: Tuesday November 10, 6-8pm in Blowers Gallery
This exhibit showcases New Orleans' resilience to heal after Hurricane Katrina. The images depict New Orleans in 2015, ten years later. Included are photographs from the ninth ward and the story of Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband, Scott, who lived through the Hurricane Katrina tragedy and rebuilt their lives afterward. The Oscar nominated documentary "Trouble the Water" will be featured during the exhibit.

From the Edge is brought to UNC Asheville by a collaboration of the UNC Asheville Arts & Ideas, UNC Asheville Department of Drama, Progra, the Bakhrushin Center State Theatre Museum in Russia, and Carnegie Mellon University.

The show includes work leading up to and including Cage's discovery of Structural Abstraction. The presentation will highlight the process under which Cage's discovery of structural abstraction is expressed in his forms and comprise his "Inner Circle" - an assortment of abstract figures recurring in his work.

Frederic has chosen the life span of the magnolia blossom as a metaphor for her daughter, Abigail's fragile life. Abigail was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 with a prognosis of only 48 hours to live. Today Abigail is 27 years old.

This two part exhibition examines two different events in American culture. Jan. 14-Feb 4, features photographs of the Burning Man Festival in Nevada and from Feb. 6-28, featues photographs of Robert Wilson, "a towering figure in the world of experimental theater."
Pavel, born 1962 in Volgograd, USSR, graduated from Moscow University of Culture in 1991 and spent 7 years exhibiting in Europe, before moving to New York in 1998 to begin work as a freelance photographer. He is known, for his work in theater and fashion photography and his exhibits have spanned from Moscow to Zurich to New York.
